LPKF Equips German Armed Forces with Circuit Board Plotters

Reading time ( words)

More than 50 challenging civilian occupations await young people at the Bundeswehr, and electronics plays an important role in some of them.

The choice of processes used demonstrates the value that the Bundeswehr trainers place on a professional setting. With over 20 newly purchased ProtoMat E44 circuit board plotters, trainers throughout Germany are relying on an environmentally friendly, chemical-free process for manufacturing single- and double-sided PCBs.

LPKF ProtoMats machine conductive patterns out of fully coated substrates by contour milling. Contact and mounting holes are then drilled. The vision system integrated in the ProtoMat E44 helps reliably detect the substrate position on the working surface to ensure that the same area is covered on the front and back sides.

Working with the mechanical milling process yields a number of advantages. The ProtoMats require little maintenance, take up little space in the development lab, and need no etching chemicals. Through the intuitive system software, trainees can quickly convert their own designs into refined PCB production prototypes.

Perfect for training and occasional PCB prototyping: Thanks to the vision system the LPKF ProtoMat E44 can also produce double-sided PCB with highest precision.

IPC Supporting Newcomers in the Industry: Notes from IPC APEX EXPO 2021

04/01/2021 | Marc Carter, Aeromarc
With the wrap-up of IPC APEX EXPO 2021, it was extremely gratifying to note the emphasis placed on getting young people involved to combat the “graying out” knowledge losses facing our industry. A part of that emphasis was reflected in the award ceremony on Tuesday, March 9, which featured some people you may have seen mentioned in my “Better to Light a Candle” columns.

Nolan Johnson talks with Eduardo Benmayor, general manager at Aismalibar, about materials challenges facing the powertrain portion of the automotive EV industry. Eduardo also speaks about what he sees as the biggest challenge facing EVs—infrastructure.

IPC Releases Free Smart Factory for Electronics Manufacturing Presentation

03/09/2021 | Happy Holden, I-Connect007
The IPC APEX EXPO 2021 Technical Program features a tract on the “Factory of the Future Implementation,” March 10-11. As part of that program, IPC has made available a free presentation and video from the Manufacturing Technology Center (MTC), a CFX Program member. In this presentation, Barry Maybank along with Naim Kapadia, MTC technology manager, explains the background of the MTC, one of seven high-value-manufacturing technology catapult centers established in the UK.
