Sunstone Circuits has just announced the addition of the Paragon-9800, the latest in laser direct imaging equipment from Orbotech, to its Oregon manufacturing facility.

“With the electronics industry continually requiring smaller and denser PCBs, with tighter manufacturing tolerances, Sunstone Circuits is again responding by adding necessary manufacturing technology to meet these needs. In our business of quick turnaround, high-tech US manufactured PCB prototyping, we are thrilled to be able to invest in equipment that streamlines our process, and improves our capabilities and quality.” said Sunstone’s Director of Operations, Nancy Viter.

The recently installed Paragon-9800 is providing Sunstone with additional imaging capacity, capability and environmental improvements.  The combination of high depth-of-focus (≥300µm), accuracy (+/- 10µ), high resolution capability (25µm/ 1 mil) and Dynamic imaging modes means Sunstone will continue to stay ahead of the PCB technology curve. The digital printing format of the Paragon-9800 allows Sunstone to continue to lower waste generation, and reduce both process time and costs as compared to the additional processes required by classic imaging techniques. “I am excited about of moving to digital imaging, it has positive impacts on both quality and waste,” said Ed Graham Sunstone’s Environmental Health and Safety Manager, “which will benefit Sunstone, our customers and the environment as a whole.”

PCB Manufacturing (R)evolution in the Making

04/11/2018 | Stephen Las Marias, I-Connect007
At the recent HKPCA and IPC Show 2017 in Shenzhen, China, I was able to interview Les Sainsbury, CEO, and Andrew Kelley, CTO, of XACT PCB, as well as Alex Stepinski, vice president of Whelen Engineering’s PCB Fab Business Unit, to discuss process evolution and technology developments in the PCB manufacturing industry.

New Year, New Equipment—Right?

02/26/2018 | Patty Goldman, I-Connect007
This month, we will discuss the equipment purchasing decision-making process. How many of you can recall the earliest “dippy dunk” PCB shops, so-called because that’s exactly how it was done? There were no conveyorized lines, no automatic hoists, no load/unload stations, maybe not even a lab for analyzing the plating baths.

EIPC’s Winter Conference in Lyon, France: Day 2 Review

02/20/2018 | Pete Starkey, I-Connect007
The first day of the conference had started and ended in the dark—a long and technically intense day! After a convivial conference dinner and a good night’s sleep we were back on the bus, this time in daylight at the slightly later time of 8:00 a.m., for the journey from downtown Lyon back to Alstom’s conference facility in Villeurbanne, and it wasn’t raining. In fact, there was even some sunshine later in the day!
